5 Easy Steps To Beat Soaring Food Prices - Starting Today!

by Perry Mallory

(May 21, 2008)

Have you noticed that food prices have become outrageous? Of course that have. The increased prices of oil is causing a ripple affect with everything. Even though the eggs and the milk are the same, it cost more to feed the chickens that lay the eggs and more to feed the cows and goats that provides the milk. Therefore, food prices have to go up. Instead of complaining about increasing prices of gas, heating oil and food, we live in a time that we must use greater levels of wisdom to not only survive but to reign supreme in our spheres of influence and enjoy life like times in the past. Not everyone sees the current times as dismal.

Here are 5 easy ways to beat the soaring food prices at your local grocery store:

1. Make sure that you become a member of several of the areas’ competing grocery stores.

2. Check to see if their weekly specials are posted online. If not, subscribe to get their circular mailed to your house weekly.

3. Review their B.O.G.O. (buy one, get one free) offers weekly. The larger stores like Wal Mart usually don't participate in these. But it is stores like Wal Mart that are causing the smaller grocery chains to run specials weekly (this is to your favor).

4. Make sure that each item that you normally buy (regardless of the brand) gets purchased during that week. That means you double up on the item. I do this all the time. For example, buying 2 packs of hotdogs on a BOGO deal two weeks before Memorial Day makes alot of sense (4 packs for the price of 2).

I place the normal amounts of the items in the rotation at home and freeze the rest.

Because I have 5 major grocery stores within a 10 mile drive, I always have different options and opportunities to catch what I need in a BOGO special at one of the stores. It is normal for me bring home several bags of food and necessities and while just spending $20.00. I do it all the time. Am I cheap? No! Just wise!

5. By using my membership card every time I shop, the volume of items keeps increasing which makes me always eligible for double coupon value (as a customer perk) which in turn discounts all the items I purchase that aren't covered by the BOGO special.

These 5 simple steps can be used immediately at the stores where you shop. You'll be beating the stores at their own game. And guess what, they love it! It's a win-win situation. But only few shoppers know these techniques. Good Luck! Happy shopping!
